Improving Communication with the Hearing Impaired, Course Code: CO2236736
It is common for healthcare workers to have patients with hearing impairments and it is very important that those patients receive the same quality of care as patients who can hear. Special considerations need to be taken with this population of patients so that clear, effective communication is able to be achieved.
Without clear communication in the healthcare setting, patients can be misdiagnosed, can become noncompliant due to misunderstandings, and can feel isolated and alone.
This course will give an overview of the types of hearing losses that might be encountered in the medical setting, and will explain the statistics associated with hearing loss. The risks and challenges of unclear communication will be discussed, and best practices will be presented.
This course is approved by Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to provide continuing education credit for long term care workers in Washington State.
