Public health emergencies are stressful for communities and individuals. Anxiety and fear regarding a public health emergency can lead to discrimination and a social stigma toward places, things, or people. Discrimination and social stigma occur when people associate a disease, such as COVID-19, with a specific nationality or population, though not everyone from that country/region in that population has, or is at risk for, the condition. Stigma and discrimination can also occur when a person diagnosed with the condition has been released from quarantine. This course will discuss the effects of stigma on society and strategies to address this stigma. Course expiration date: 4/26/2025
