MedTrainer Releases USP <800> Toolkit to Help Healthcare Organizations Maintain Compliance Under New Standards
Healthcare compliance leader provides timely resource to help providers prepare for major standards change in hazardous drug handling
REDLANDS, Calif. – Sept. 24, 2019 – MedTrainer, the creator of the only all-in-one compliance management suite, announces the release of its USP <800> toolkit to prepare healthcare organizations for a smooth and effective transition ahead of the pending USP <800> hazardous drug standards. With a Dec. 1, 2019 compliance deadline, the new standards will impact facilities where people may come into contact with hazardous drugs, from receipt to disposal. Enforcement of the new standards will be determined by the State Boards of Pharmacy and OSHA, which may cause confusion regarding compliance requirements.
MedTrainer’s USP <800> toolkit contains a systematic set of processes that details all the steps healthcare organizations must follow to demonstrate compliance. Starting with an assessment of risk, the toolkit helps facilities review current procedures, identify alternative containment strategies, and create documentation consistent with the new standards—as well as OSHA requirements for the handling of hazardous drugs.
The USP <800> toolkit also provides guidance with:
- Identification and assessment of hazardous drugs
- Equipment and process requirements
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Electronic SOP distribution and tracking
- Personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Employee training and competency
- Spill and decontamination instructions
- Adverse event reporting
- Program audit and reporting
MedTrainer CEO Steve Gallion said, “MedTrainer was built to fill a need in the healthcare industry with compliance management. We are dedicated to promoting excellence in healthcare by helping organizations effectively manage all the essential aspects of compliance and credentialing.
