Development and Age Specific Considerations for Improving Perioperative Outcomes
60 MINUTES
1.00 CE CREDITS

In this course, we will cover age-specific differences in our patients, decision-making assessments, care plan development, perioperative risk assessment tools, and conditions that can reduce patients’ decision-making abilities. Age-specific competencies are a set of skills that will help you provide care to your patient at their current stage of life. As individuals age, there are developmental stages that have a general correlation with age. Through this course, you will gain an understanding of each stage and learn to take into consideration each patient’s individuality. Course expiration date: 1/31/2026

The Role of Oral Care in the Prevention of Hospital Acquired Pneumonia
45 MINUTES

In the US, ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) and non-ventilator associated pneumonia (NVAP) is the leading type of hospital associated infection (HAI). It is found that VAP and NVAP occurs in 2-16 patients per 1000 in the US. VAP and NVAP increases patient length of stay, rate of mortality, and hospital cost. There is a simple way of preventing this common type of AHI by providing patients with good oral hygiene. Studies show that regular oral hygiene can significantly reduce incidence of VAP and NVAP. This presentation will discuss the cost and incidence of VAP and NVAP, risk factors that increase the development of HAP , the role of healthcare provider (HCP) in the prevention of VAP and NVAP, and recommendations for HCPs to implement prevention of VAP and NVAP.

Best Practices for Enteral Access Devices (EADs)
50 MINUTES

In todays healthcare landscape, the use of EADs for nutritional support, medication administration, hydration, and gastric decompression is increasing rapidly. As a result, understanding the safe use and best practices for EADs is essential for healthcare personnel. By actively seeking knowledge and participating in the selection and care of these devices, healthcare providers can become an invaluable resource for safe patient care. This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of EADs, including the rationale for enteral nutrition, the various types of EADs, potential complications associated with their use, and best practices for their care in adult patients.

Management of Central Venous Catheters
30 MINUTES
0.5 CE CREDITS

According to Infection Control Today, approximately 5 million patients in the United States are put at risk for a potentially life-threatening infection due to the insertion of a medical device. In another article in Infection Control Today, persons with a central-line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) are 2-4 times more likely to die due to an infection and CLABSIs are a leading contributor to healthcare acquired infections. This course will provide an overview of central venous catheters (CVC), discuss the prevalence of complications from CVCs, and review evidence-based guidelines in the documentation, insertion, assessment, and management of CVCs.

Sepsis
50 MINUTES

You will learn how short, straight-forward set of evidence-based practices, performed in a timely manner, can improve patient outcomes in sepsis and prevent occurrence of septic shock. Becoming aware of risks and causes can help identify patients so that bundle interventions to restore tissue perfusion and treat underlying infection can be initiated. Recognize how additional support, in way of nutritional metabolic management, can directly decrease rates of morbidity in septic patients. Incorporating the diagnostic criteria for sepsis, understanding the surviving sepsis campaign bundles as well as following most recent guidelines on clinical nutrition can improve your septic patients outcome.

30 MINUTES
0.50 CE CREDITS

When a child under the age of one stops breathing, turns blue/pale, is unresponsive, or has a change in muscle tone, it is frightening to the parent(s), caregiver, and healthcare personnel. When this event happens suddenly and lasts no more than 60 seconds, the event is considered a brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE).
This course defines a brief resolved unexplained event, discusses the potential causes and risk factors, the prevalence and incidence of BRUE, and the evidence-based guidelines for dealing with BRUE. Course expiration date: 6/30/2025
