Confined spaces are areas within a building designed specifically for employees and others to access, to perform certain jobs. This course provides an overview of confined spaces, regulations regarding the protection of workers and the public as they relate to interactions with confined spaces , and safeguards that must be used. Other topics covered in the course include permit requirements for confined spaces, the nature of hazards involved in working with confined spaces and recommendations for ensuring a safe work environment.
Goal This course covers key OSHA requirements for safety training for workers who are required to enter confined spaces as a part of their job functions.

In this course, best practices for preventing and handling fires in healthcare settings will be reviewed. A healthcare facility’s water supply frequently has waterborne pathogens in it. This can become a reservoir for bacteria growth, leading to healthcare-associated infections. Fast, accurate, and specific identification of these waterborne pathogens is crucial for a bacteria-free water supply. This course will explain the risks of waterborne pathogen transmission, discuss the prevalence of disease outbreaks from waterborne pathogens, and review the goals and elements of a water management program and evidence-based guidelines in water management. Nursing Homes 101

By 2050, the U.S. population of the 65 and over age group will double. Families are not always able to care for their aging relatives or for those who need continual care or supervision, thus nursing homes are essential and provide the services necessary to keep residents healthy and comfortable. This course is intended for those who are new to the nursing home industry and want to know what to expect. An overview of nursing homes and the types of employees who work in nursing homes will be outlined, the types of services provided in a nursing home will be examined, and information for new employees, including primary job responsibilities and helpful tips to be successful, will be discussed.

Management of Indwelling Urinary Catheters

There are different types of urinary catheters; however, indwelling urinary catheters are the most common medical device used in healthcare facilities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is the most prevalent healthcare-associated infection.

This course will provide an overview of indwelling urinary catheters, discuss the prevalence of complications related to indwelling urinary catheters, and review evidence-based guidelines in the documentation, insertion, maintenance, and specimen collection of indwelling urinary catheters. CMS SNF QRP: Section GG: Functional Abilities and Goals

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is offering an updated web-based training series on the assessment and coding of Section GG. This training is intended for providers in the following care settings: Home Health Agencies (HHAs), Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs), Long-Term Care Hospitals (LTCHs), and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs).

This is the first of three courses in this training series. This training provides an overview of the patient/resident assessment instrument guidance across post-acute care (PAC) settings for the coding of the items in Section GG, Functional Abilities and Goals. These courses contain a description of the item intent and rationale, steps for assessment, and coding principles for the self-care and mobility items. Resources available to assist PAC providers in understanding and training others in the application of related coding guidance will be reviewed. This course, Understanding Prior Functioning and Prior Device Use, includes interactive exercises to test your knowledge related to the assessment guidance and coding of GG0100 and GG0110.

CMS SNF QRP: Case Study Reports and Enhancements

This video from the August 2019 Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP) Provider Training held on August 13 and 14, 2019, focuses on how to locate the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Reports in CASPER, describes the purpose and summarizes the data available in these reports, and explains how providers can use the SNF QRP Reports to perform quality improvement analysis using a case study.
