Besdine, MD, healthy aging in the United States is on the rise evidenced by a reduction in the rate of older people residing in nursing homes, even though the number of people who are over age 65 and who are over age 85 has increased; the number of people aged 75 to 84 reporting impairments has decreased, and the number of people over 65 years old with debilitating conditions has decreased.
