Licensed nurses, as well as all other medical professionals, are required to follow accepted standards that are developed using federal laws as well as specialized procedures. The Ohio Board of Nursing is given the authority by the Nurse Practice Act, ORC 4723, to produce and regulate the guidelines and directives for medical practitioners like licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and advanced practice nurses such as certified nurse specialists, registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives and certified nurse practitioners. The mission of the Ohio Board of Nursing is to actively safeguard the health of the public through the effective regulation of nursing care.
