This course will discuss the typology of patient complexity, discuss the prevalence and influencing factors of clinically complex patients, and review evidence-based guidelines in determining patient complexity and caring for the complex patient. Learners will be oriented to the typology of patient complexity, common cluster comorbidities, factors leading to an increase in patient complexity, and evidence-based guidelines for the identification and care of the complex patient. The course also provides insights into the population health impact of complex patients.

UTIs are responsible for an estimated 7 million office visits, 1 million emergency room visits, and 100,000 hospitalizations each year. This course is intended for providers in Home Health Agencies (HHAs), Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs), Long-Term Care Hospitals (LTCHs), and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs).
