The New York Surprise Law became effective April 1, 2015, providing protection for consumers regarding co-payments, impacting billing and reimbursement, and requiring new disclosures from healthcare providers regarding their plan participation status. This course will discuss the Emergency Medical Services and Surprise laws and their impact on New York Insurance, Public Health, and Financial Services Regulations. In Addition, disclosure requirements for certain health care providers for out-of-network and non-urgent care, new billing and reimbursement rules, health plan participation status with providers, consumer rights, and the arbitration process will be reviewed.
