Allergies and Anaphylaxis
This course provides a brief overview of allergies and anaphylaxis. Between 1 percent and 15 percent of the population of the United States are at risk for having an anaphylactic reaction when exposed to one or more allergens. In the United States alone, anaphylaxis results in approximately 1,500 deaths per year. In order to have an anaphylactic reaction, a person must have previously been exposed to an allergen. Although toxins may not elicit a severe allergic reaction the first time, another exposure may produce a sudden, severe allergic reaction, or anaphylaxis, which causes a persons airway to tighten, restricting air flow, and if left untreated could lead to cardiac arrest or up to death.

Making the Most of Your PPE Supplies
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have published strategies to help health systems and healthcare workers optimize PPE supplies during the pandemic.
The purpose of these strategies is to help healthcare facilities make the most of supplies available. Different strategies should be utilized based on the PPE capacity available. A detailed breakdown of strategies for five types of PPE N95 respirators, facemasks, eye protection, gowns, and gloves provides advice for optimizing each piece of equipment.
This course will provide an overview of the purpose of the different strategies for optimizing and planning use of PPE, with a brief review of five of the most commonly utilized pieces of PPE. Proper use of the PPE Burn Rate calculator will also be discussed. Course expiration date: 2/18/2026

Management of Arthritis
Although the word arthritis means joint inflammation, the term is often used to refer to any disorder that affects the joints. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arthritis affects 54.4 million, or about 1 in 4, U.S. adults. Surgical Scrub and Surgical Attire
During surgical procedures, both clients and providers are at risk of exposure to potentially infectious microorganisms. Proper surgical attire helps reduce the risk of post-procedure infections, and some elements of surgical attire are also designed to reduce the risk of exposure to potentially infectious blood and tissue during clinical procedures. This course is designed to help learners understand the basics of surgical scrub and attire when a potential exposure is prevalent.

Current HIV and AIDS Trends, Prevention, and Improving Patient Outcomes
Human immune deficiency virus, or HIV, causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome, commonly known as AIDS. This deadly virus attacks CD4 cells present in the immune system and results in an impaired immune system that isnt able to fight off infections and certain cancers. Because of this impaired immune system, those with HIV and AIDS can get infections that a person with a healthy immune system may not, which could prove deadly to a person with HIV/AIDS. This course has been created to increase your understanding of the basics of HIV and AIDS, national trends, and clinical guidelines for preventing healthcare-related needlestick injuries. Course expiration date: 1/2/2026
