Infection Prevention and Linen Management
Linen in a healthcare facility has the potential to be contaminated with multitudes of pathogens. However, thanks to safe handling practices, the likelihood of infection transmission linked to linen is minimal.
This activity will explain the chain of infection related to linen handling, discuss the prevalence of infections from handling soiled linen, and review evidence-based guidelines in linen. Course expiration date: 2/13/2026

The Influenza Vaccine
Influenza, or the flu, is a contagious, respiratory viral illness which affects between 3% and 11% of Americans every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, ). The best way to prevent the flu is by getting an annual flu vaccination.
In this course, well begin with a high-level overview of the disease, including a review of pathophysiology and epidemiology. This includes a review of persons considered high-risk for influenza infection or severe complications from infection. Well then discuss the flu vaccine, with a focus on the types of vaccines available while examining their similarities and differences. Vaccine handling, storage, transportation, and administration will also be reviewed and identifying those who should and should not receive an influenza vaccination will be discussed.

Transmission-Based Precautions
The best way to prevent infection is to prevent its transmission from one person to another. Sometimes, following standard precautions is not enough to prevent transmission, and additional transmission-based precautions are necessary. This course will discuss the categories of transmission-based precautions and explain when to implement and discontinue transmission-based precautions.

Identifying and Preventing Antibiotic Resistant Diseases and Outbreaks
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest public health challenges of our time. Antibiotic resistance is also referred to as antimicrobial resistance or drug resistance.
Each year in the United States, at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, and at least 23,000 people die as a direct result of these infections.
In this course, we will review causes of antibiotic resistance, the pathogens responsible for the biggest threats to human health, and what you can do to prevent a antibiotic-resistant infection. Course expiration date: 8/30/2025

Fighting the Spread of Influenza HAIs in Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC)
Patients and healthcare professionals in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) are at risk of becoming infected by influenza from exposure by those with the virus. The invasive procedures that are conducted at ASCs increase the risk for patients in certain age groups and adults with weakened immune systems. Annual vaccinations of healthcare personnel is a high priority for reducing morbidity in the healthcare setting, and eleven states have established flu vaccination laws for ASCs, including surgery centers. Course expiration date: 11/3/2025
