This one-hour course will include the identification of general drug diversion in patients and among staff. It will cover the scope of the prescription drug abuse epidemic, patient perception and lack of information, risk factors for prescription drug abuse, frequently diverted and abused prescription drugs, challenges in chronic pain management, types of pain, evaluating pain and addiction risk, the four A’s of chronic pain treatment, safe use, disposal, and storage of controlled substances, risk evaluation and mitigation strategy, and clinical decision tools and resources.
