The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is offering a web-based training course that provides a high-level overview of how data elements within CMS patient/resident assessment instruments are used to construct quality measures (QMs) across post-acute care (PAC) settings. While each PAC setting has their own Quality Reporting Program (QRP), this training will focus on only the cross-setting QMs. This course is intended for Home Health Agencies (HHAs), Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs), Long-Term Care Hospitals (LTCHs) and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs).

A state of crisis exists when an individual is overwhelmed by a stressful event, is unable to respond with adequate coping strategies, and may be pushed to a state of psychological disequilibrium, characterized by feelings of anxiety, helplessness, agitation, and confusion. Medical and psychological personnel, as well as some first responders, are trained to defuse a crisis by assessing and intervening, providing coping skills, and returning the individual to his or her prior state of functioning while minimizing long-term traumatic effects. This course identifies crisis situations, shows how they are assessed, and presents various models and techniques of intervention, with the overall goal of positive change.
