Restorative Nursing Programs are nursing interventions that promote a residents independent living and prevent decline. Such programs offer a range of benefits to both the resident and the facility. While restorative nursing programs are not the same as rehabilitation programs, they are more intense than routine nursing care. To be recognized as a restorative nursing program, specific criteria must be met and relevant documentation must be maintained. This course provides an overview of restorative nursing programs, discusses how these may be developed, what documentation is required for the programs, and reimbursement.

Course Overview
This course discusses diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and their significance as a health problem for individuals with diabetes. Participants will learn about the barriers to healing in diabetic patients as well as the risk factors associated with the development of DFUs. The course will also cover best practices for assessing individuals with DFUs and reducing pressure to promote healing.

Enterocutaneous fistulas can be a frustrating and disheartening experience for the patient and family members. Often, it represents a new or additional complication or unexpected development of an ongoing disease process. It can also be a challenge for the clinician, as well. This course will help with understanding the development, treatment, and nursing considerations for effective fistula management so, as clinicians, we can better treat and manage this patient population. In this presentation, we will focus on the benefits of wound photographs as adjunct documentation in the medical record. When taken with care, wound photos can serve as a communication tool, a clinical tool, an educational tool as well as a risk management tool. Wound bed preparation includes the treatment of the whole patient before the hole in the patient by treating the cause and patient-centered concerns. Local wound bed preparation includes DIM—which is debridement, infection/inflammation, and moisture balance—before DIMES, which is DIM plus advanced edge effect therapies for wounds with the ability to heal. Wound cleansing is one of the most important components of an effective wound management protocol. Optimal wound healing cannot occur until all proinflammatory material and foreign bodies have been removed from the wound.
This course provides an overview of the essentials of wound cleansing, which include understanding the principles, identifying the tools available, and acknowledging common solutions for effective wound cleansing, which is essential for effective wound healing.
